Imperata cylindrica, commonly kent as blady gress, cogon gress /koʊˈɡoʊn/, kunai gress /ˈkuːnaɪ/, or Japanese bloodgrass, is a species o gress in the genus Imperata. It is placed in the subfaimily Panicoideae, supertribe Andropogonodae, tribe Andropogoneae.
It is a perennial rhizomatous gress native tae east an sootheast Asie, Indie, Micronesie, Melanesie, Australie, an eastren an soothren Africae. It grows frae 0.6–3 m (2–10 feet) taw. The leaves are aboot 2 cm wide near the base o the plant an nairae tae a sharp pynt at the tap; the margins are finely tuithed an are embedded wi sharp silica crystals. The main vein is a lichter colour than the rest o the leaf an tends tae be nearer tae ane side o the leaf. The upper surface is hairy near the base o the plant while the unnerside is uisually hairless. Ruits are up tae 1.2 meters deep, but 0.4 m is teepical in sandy soil.
