Aapstertsteekgras (Aristida congesta Roem. & Schult.) is 'n grasspesie wat inheems is aan alle provinsies van Suid-Afrika asook aan Namibië, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mosambiek en verder tot die Middellandse See. Op die SANBI-rooilys is dit as 'veilig' gelys.[1]
SANBI vermeld twee subspesies:
Dit is 'n meerjarige digte polgras wat 10 -75 cm hoog word. Die blare kan plat of gevou wees. Die pluime is 3 – 20 cm lank. Dit het stekeltjies met ongelyke kaffies. Die boonste is die grootste en kan 6,5 – 10 mm lank word. Dit kom in bladwisselende bosland op klipperige hellings of verweerde plekke voor.[3]
