2010-04-21 Lower Austria, district Schwechat (brownlands, 175 m AMSL).Habitus.The almond tree is not native to Austria, and even though climate is warm enough (just!) in some lower-lying region there's only little cultivation going on - and that's mostly if not exclusively non-commercial, for personal needs only; they're also popular as ornamental plants (because of their flowers). This one here grows in a place which really is a dump - either it has been a garden once, or else somehow almond seeds have been dropped there, and the tree grew 'wild', so to speak. It's the single one there, and it's even bearing fruit in fall.(The leaves up front are of Rumex species.)German name: Mandelbaum
