It is found in Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.[2] The habitat consists of dense forests.

Bicyclus taenias is een vlinder uit de onderfamilie Satyrinae van de familie Nymphalidae.[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1877 door William Chapman Hewitson.
