Test large, the adult consisting of a bulbous central area, up to 2.6 mm in diameter, that gives rise to a repeatedly branching system of rapidly tapering holdfasts, both bulb and holdfasts being buried in the mud, with a vertical tubular stalklike portion, or rarely two such stalks, from 5 mm to 19 mm in length, projecting above the substrate and bifurcating repeatedly, up to five orders of branching, resulting in an arborescent and flexible superstructure; wall agglutinated, that of the bulbous central portion double, with fine and coarse particles of sand, diatom frustules, and sponge spicules on a fibrous organic base, wall of finer sand particles in the holdfast area and branches; no aperture present at the end of the branches, but in life pseudopodia extend from very small pores in the branches.
