Distribucion en Costa Rica: Alajuela: Guatuso; San Carlos; San Ramón; Upala. Cartago: Turrialba. Guanacaste: La Cruz. Limón: Limón, Wauchope. Puntarenas: Garabito; Golfito; Osa. San José: Turrubares.
Distribucion General: Mexico to Colombia.

Females feed on the blood of mammals.

Immature stages unknown.

Hind tibiae without apical spurs; basicosta with strong setae as dense as those on the adjoining costa, never with setae sparse; vertex rarely with a tubercle; first antennal segment rarely enlarged and cap-like; no prominent black pilose spot covering the base of the scutellum and adjoining mesoscutum; body not wholly black; wing not heavily spotted; large, brown species with reddish or orange brown abdomen and very narrow frons with a ridge-like callus; basal flagellomere of antenna with at most a strong dorsal tooth; face, genae and beard pale gray; wings tinted brown, with a short spur or none at the fork of veins R4 and R5; abdomen orange-red on tergites 1-4, tergites 5-6 abruptly black and black haired.
