Arid and semi-arid regions of Central America.

Distribucion en Costa Rica:
Distribucion General: U.S.A. (Arizona, New Mexico, Texas); Mexico (Colima, Morelos, Puebla, Oaxaca, D.F.) Belize; Honduras.

Feeding habits poorly known; females probably feed on the blood of mammals.

Immature stages are found in streams and rivers.

Hind tibiae without apical spurs; basicosta with strong setae as dense as those on the adjoining costa; vertex without a tubercle; first antennal segment somewhat enlarged and expanded over the scape; without a prominent black pilose spot covering the base of the scutellum; not wholly black; wings clear; abdomen with a large black velvety spot on tergite 2 and a smaller black spot on tergite 3, tergites 3-4 with a large median pale spot or triangle, much larger than the pale spots on other tergites.
