Dichelacera regina Fairchild 1940

Occurs in forested areas with high rainfall between 400 and 800 mts.

This species is most common in the forest canopy.

Distribucion en Costa Rica:
Distribucion General: Honduras to Ecuador.

Adults feed on mammals, including humans.

Immature stages unknown.

Hind tibiae without spurs; basicosta without strong setae; third antennal segment with a strong dorsobasal forward pointed spine which often reaches to or beyond the end of the basal flagellomere; eyes bare; not a stout, bee-like species; antennal scape not greatly elongated; frontal callus as wide as the front; mesoscutum transversely banded; frontoclypeus and genae tomentose; body not entirely black; fifth and following tergites wholly dark and dark haired; second tergite with a yellow haired hind border; proximal margin of the wing fascia weakly sinuous to nearly straight, passing through the fork of veins R4 and R5, fascia filling wing evenly to the margin, the basal clear areas strongly yellow tinged; yellow abdominal bands on tergites 2-4 even or slightly wider in the middle.
