This species was considered a junior synonym of Melinna cristata but subsequently re-established by Mackie & Pleijel (1995) after thorough examination of northern European material.
Mackie & Pleijel (1995) re-established this species as separate from Melinna cristata and provide a comparison of diagnostic features distinguishing it from M. cristata and M. albicincta (table 1). A thorough description of this species can be found on pages 111-116 and figures 3-4.
The type locality is in Scotland, St. Andrews.
This species was first found in the stomach of haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus) and therefore seems to be preyed upon by bottom-feeding fish.
Melinna elisabethae is een borstelworm uit de familie Ampharetidae. Het lichaam van de worm bestaat uit een kop, een cilindrisch, gesegmenteerd lichaam en een staartstukje. De kop bestaat uit een prostomium (gedeelte voor de mondopening) en een peristomium (gedeelte rond de mond) en draagt gepaarde aanhangsels (palpen, antennen en cirri).
Melinna elisabethae werd in 1918 voor het eerst wetenschappelijk beschreven door McIntosh.
