Adults are grayish brown, with large patches of white hair on the wings and body, giving it a varigated and hairy appearance (Ross,1944). The harpago is slightly longer than the disto-dorsal lobe of the male clasper (Morse, 1975).

Life Cycle

Larvae will burrow into colonies of freshwater sponges and feed. The case is made up entirely of silk secretions produced by the larvae and will sometimes pupate right in the sponge mats in the spring (LaFontaine, 1981).
