Stem and branches spreading or decumbent, mostly 1-4 dm. long, strigillose ; leafblades ovate or oblong-ovate, or narrowly ovate near the tips of the branches or broadly ovate near the base of the plant, mostly 1-2.5 cm. long, obtuse or acute, sparingly strigillose on both sides, bright -green above, pale-green beneath, truncate or subcordate at the base ; petaliferous flowers borne mostly in terminal clusters ; sepals ovate, 2.5-3 mm. long, the glands about one half as long as the sepal-body; larger petals 5-6.5 mm. long; cleistogamous flowers short-peduncled ; nutlets 4.5-5 mm. long, the median ridge rather blunt, the lateral angles minutely tuberculate-crested, the faces uneven, finely-pubescent.

Distribution : Southern Texas, Arizona, and northern Mexico.

Aspicarpa longipes A. Gray, PI. Wright. 1 : 37. 1852 Stem and branches spreading or widely decumbent, mostly 1 m. long or less, strigillose ; leaf-blades ovate, oblong-ovate, or oval, 1-4.5 cm. long, rounded or abruptly pointed at the apex, bright green above, pale-green beneath, with scattered hairs on both sides, cordate or subcordate at the base, short-petioled ; petaliferous flowers mostly clustered at the ends of the branches ; sepals ovate, often broadly so, 3.5—1.5 mm. long, the glands about one half as long as the sepal-body ; larger petals 6-8 mm. long ; cleistogamous flowers longpeduncled ; nutlets 4-5 mm. long, the median crest sharp, nearly even, the lateral angles narrowly and unevenly margined, the faces faintly wrinkled.
Type locality : Between Texas and El Paso. [Western Texas.] Distribution : Texas to Arizona and northern Mexico.
