Haworthiopsis reinwardtii (Salm-Dyck) G. D. Rowley

Haworthia reinwardtii ist eine Pflanzenart aus der Unterfamilie der Affodillgewächse (Asphodeloideae), die in der Ostkap-Provinz Südafrikas vorkommt.

Merkmale

Die Nominatform H. reinwardtii var. reinwardtii wächst mit mehreren stammähnlich verlängerten Blattrosetten, die eine Länge von 15 bis 20 cm und einen Durchmesser von 5 bis 10 cm erreichen. Die zahlreichen, spiralig an der Sprossachse angeordneten aufrecht ausgebreiteten oder einwärts gebogenen Laubblätter sind bis zu 7 cm lang und 2 cm breit. Die Blattoberfläche ist rau, bräunlich-grün und trägt meist zahlreiche, flache, weißliche Knötchen.

Der meist einfache, selten zusammengesetzte Blütenstand enthält 15 bis 20 Blüten. Die sechs Blütenhüllblätter sind blassrosa bis weiß mit grau-braunen Adern; sie sind zu einer gebogenen Blütenröhre verwachsen mit drei nach oben eingerollten inneren Tepalen.

Haworthia reinwardtii ist im Erscheinungsbild sehr vielfältig und es sind eine Reihe von Varietäten und Formen beschrieben, wobei manche dieser Varianten inzwischen anderen Arten zugerechnet werden. Haworthia reinwardtii werden aktuell zugerechnet:

• Haworthia reinwardtii fa. chalumnensis (G.G.Sm.) M.B.Bayer
  kommt bei Chalumna vor und weist verlängerte, einwärts gebogene, auffällig gefleckte Blätter auf.
• Haworthia reinwardtii fa. Kaffirdriftensis (G.G.Sm.) M.B.Bayer
  wächst am Great Fish River und weist an der Außenseite der Blätter längs verlaufende Reihen von Knötchen auf.
• Haworthia reinwardtii fa. olivacea (G.G.Sm.) M.B.Bayer
  vom Great Fish River weist olivgrüne, relativ glatte Blätter mit wenigen runden Knötchen auf.
• Bei Haworthia reinwardtii fa. zebrina (G.G.Sm.) M.B.Bayer
  vom Great Fish River sind die Knötchen auf der Außenseite der Blätter in auffälligen Querbändern angeordnet.
• Haworthia reinwardtii var. brevicula G.G.Sm.
  bei Grahamstown erreicht nur eine Höhe von etwa 10 cm und einen Rosettendurchmesser von 4 cm.

Haworthiopsis reinwardtii, formerly Haworthia reinwardtii, is a species of succulent flowering plant in the family Asphodelaceae, native to the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. It is one of the species of Haworthiopsis that is commonly cultivated as an ornamental.

Description

It is a perennial succulent, with stems growing to 20 cm (8 in)in height, with a basal rosette of white-spotted fleshy leaves arranged in a spiral pattern, and racemes of tubular pinkish-white flowers in spring. The plant spreads to form a mat, by means of freely-produced offsets, also a convenient means of propagation.^[2]

It is frequently confused with Haworthiopsis coarctata - a closely related species which occurs just to the west of this species' natural range and looks very similar. However H. reinwardtii has larger, flatter and whiter tubercles on its leaves (those of H. coarctata are smaller, smoother and rounder). H. reinwardtii also has thinner, narrower leaves.^[3]

Cultivation

H. reinwardtii requires very well-drained soil and some exposure to sun. It does not tolerate prolonged exposure to temperatures below 10 °C (50 °F), so in temperate regions it must be grown under glass with heat. It has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.^[4]

Haworthiopsis reinwardtii, anteriormente Haworthia reinwardtii, es una especie suculenta perteneciente a la familia de las asfodeláceas. Es originaria de la Provincia del Cabo Oriental en Sudáfrica.

Descripción

Planta suculenta de unos 20 a 35 cm de altura por 4 a 10 cm de diámetro. Las hojas, a diferencia de otras especies del mismo género, se superponen unas sobre otras en espiral, formando una apretada roseta alargada. Las hojas, erectas o extendidas, tienen unos 7 cm de largo por 2 cm en la base terminando en un ápice agudo incurvado. De color verde o verde amarronado, están por pequeños tubérculos aplanados blancos o grisáceos. Se reproduce desde la base llegando a formar densos grupos.
La inflorescencia es un tallo único, a veces ramificado, de unos 30 cm de largo. Las flores, entre 15 y 20, se agrupan en la punta. De color blanco verdoso, de forma tubular y curvada, con los tépalos interiores revolutos.

Esta especie está estrechamente emparentada con Haworthiopsis coarctata, lo que la diferencia de ella son los tubérculos más grandes, aplanados y blancos.^[2]​

Especie bastante polimorfa. Además de variedades se reconocen algunas formas con características ligeramente diferentes.
