Taken in commercial quantities by handlines, longlines, and bottom trawls. Juveniles are also caught in considerable quantities by shrimp trawlers using beam trawls . N. virgatus is one of the most important commercial fish in the East China Sea and northern South China Sea (Li, 1954; Eggleston, 1973). The total catch reported for this species to FAO for 1999 was 250 591 t. The countries with the largest catches were China (246 601 t) and Taiwan Province of China (3 990 t). Marketed mainly fresh, but also steamed or made into fish balls.

A benthic species, occurs on mud or sand bottomsin depths down to about 220 m.Very abundant in the northern part of the South China Sea and southern part of the East China Sea. Young fish generally occur in shallower water, between 18 and 33 m (Eggleston, 1973).Females predominate at small sizes and males at larger sizes, due to faster growth rates in males (Eggleston, 1973; Kao & Liu, 1979). This species is a rudimentary hermaphrodite, in which all males have func-tional testes with rudimentary ovarian portions throughout their life. Spawning takes place from February to June with a peak from February to April in the South China Sea (Eggleston, 1973; Liu & Su, 1972). Eggs and larvae are described by Aoyama & Sotogaki (1955), Renzhai & Surfen (1980) and Renzhai (1986). The diet consists of crustaceans, fish and cephalopods (Eggleston, 1973).Estimates of the parameters of the von Bertalanffy growth curve made for the population from Hong Kong (Eggleston, 1973) are: L = 44.7cm TL, K = 0.41, to = -0.12 (males); and L = 36.2 cm TL, K = 0.35, t0 = - 0.71 (females).

二名法 Nemipterus virgatusHouttuyn, 1782 金线鱼，俗名金線鰱、黃線、紅三、红衫鱼，為辐鳍鱼纲鲈形目金线鱼科的其中一个种。
特徵
本魚軀體橢圓稍延長，體被小型櫛鱗。側線僅一條，完整，中位略呈弧形。胸鰭有鰭條6－7枚。眼後方，胸鰭基底上方有一塊朱紅色小斑點。尾鰭上葉延長為絲狀，但幼魚期較無明顯的延長。眼後至尾柄基部上方有一明險的金黃色縱帶。胸鰭基底甚長，硬棘不甚堅固。背鰭硬棘10枚、軟條9－10枚；臀鰭硬棘3枚、軟條6－8枚。體長可達35公分。
生態
本魚生活于水深40－220公尺。棲息在具沙泥底質海域，屬肉食性，以甲殼類、頭足類為食。
分布
本魚分布於西太平洋區，包括日本、韓國、台灣、中國東海、南海、菲律賓、印尼、越南、泰國、澳洲等海域。
經濟利用
金線魚為一具有相當經濟價值的可食用魚類，於其出產地區（典型例子為嶺南地區）為相當大眾化的食用魚（於廣東被稱為紅衫魚），適合包括清蒸、香煎、紅燒、煮湯在內各式各樣的烹調方式。但由於其捕撈方式主要為海底拖网，族群數量在十年之間急劇下降三成，再加上因需求增加而過度捕撈以及棲息地遭受污染，其於世界自然基金會出版的《海鮮選擇指引》之級別已由「想清楚才可食用」升至「避免食用」。

Golden threadfin bream イトヨリダイ（糸撚鯛、学名：Nemipterus virgatus）は、硬骨魚綱スズキ目イトヨリダイ科に属する海水魚。
生鮮魚介類として流通する場合にはイトヨリの名称も用いられる[1]。このほか地方名としてイトヒキ、イジュキン（沖縄県）などがある。
琉球列島を除く本州中部以南の西日本、南日本、東シナ海、台湾、南シナ海の深さ40-100メートルの泥底に生息する。
体は細長くやや側扁する。尾びれは深く二叉し、上端部は糸状に伸びる。体長40cm。体色はマダイよりも淡く、ピンク色に近い。体側に黄色い縦縞が6本ある。
人間とのかかわり[編集]
うま味が強い白身魚で、美味であるため、経済的価値が高い魚として漁獲、取引される。日本で市販されているものは輸入されたものも多く、その場合鮮度が落ちるので注意が必要。近海物の大型のものは高値で取引される。旬は秋から冬にかけてである[2]。
日本では高級魚であり、特に関西で珍重する。身がやわらかく崩れやすいため、煮付け料理には向かず、蒸し魚、塩焼きにすることが多い。鮮度の良いものは刺身にもされる。沖縄県では塩味で煮るマース煮にもされる。身が柔らかいため入院食にもよく使われる。
台湾では「金線鰱」(ジンシエンリエン)、香港や広東省では「紅衫」(広東語 ホンサーム)と称し、中級の魚としてよく食べられている。油で煎り焼きにされることが最も多いが、台湾では、「話梅」(干し梅)の風味をつけた汁をかけたり、香港では落花生油で焼いて、トウチで味をつけるなど、地域によって風味の違いがある。ほかに、蒸し魚、塩焼きなどにする場合もある。台湾では魚肉練り製品の材料に使われることもある。
