The red bigeye is a nocturnal carnivore. The red colouration makes it virtually invisible in low light deep water (red light does not penetrate water as well as the other colours of the spectrum), the big eyes allow it to see in low light and the big mouth allows it to eat a wider range of prey items. Evolution at its best.
