Amphidromous. Refers to fishes that regularly migrate between freshwater and the sea (in both directions), but not for the purpose of breeding, as in anadromous and catadromous species. Sub-division of diadromous. Migrations should be cyclical and predictable and cover more than 100 km.Characteristic elements in amphidromy are: reproduction in fresh water, passage to sea by newly hatched larvae, a period of feeding and growing at sea usually a few months long, return to fresh water of well-grown juveniles, a further period of feeding and growing in fresh water, followed by reproduction there (Ref. 82692).

體延長，前部分呈圓筒形，後部側扁。背緣與腹緣呈淺弧形。尾柄高約體高的1/2倍。頭長為體長的1/3倍。眼居上側位，眼間距內凹，寬度小於眼徑。吻鈍，吻長約等於眼徑。口前位，上頜、下頜約等長，口裂延伸至眼前緣的下方。胸鰭圓扇形，胸鰭上部分有游離的鰭條。腹鰭呈吸盤狀。臀鰭與第2背鰭同形，臀鰭基底較第2背鰭基底長。尾鰭呈圓形。頭、體呈淺棕色，體側中部有7~8個灰黑色不規則斑塊，最後面的斑塊在尾鰭基部中央較大；體背側具許多深褐色的細斑；眼前下方至上頜有2條黑褐色斑紋，成魚較細，或不顯著；頰部另散布細點或短紋。第一背鰭有灰黑色斑塊，鰭棘後部上有1個黑色眼斑；第二背鰭及尾鰭各具黑褐色點狀斑紋。(林上智、林沛立編寫

Awaous ocellaris is a species of goby native to fresh, marine and brackish waters of southern Asia from India to the Philippines, and eastern Asia to Japan as well as the islands of Oceania. This species can reach a length of 13 centimetres (5.1 in) TL. It is of minor importance to local commercial fisheries.

分布
本魚分布於亞洲及大洋洲的半淡鹹水水域。
特徵
本魚體延長略呈圓柱狀，後部側扁，頭中大，吻較長，吻背平直。眼小，上側位，尾柄較短。體被小型的櫛鱗，第一背鰭前至眼後方被細小鱗片，尾形略為截平，體色呈黃棕色到淡棕色，體側中央有約6-7個黑褐色圓斑。第一背鰭後方具一大型黑色圓斑，第二背鰭及尾鰭具有3-6條垂直於鰭條之深褐色點紋。背鰭硬棘7枚，背鰭軟條10枚，臀鰭硬棘1枚，臀鰭軟條10枚，體長可達13公分。
生態
本魚為溯河洄游的底棲性魚類，成魚在溪流中產卵繁殖，多棲息在較緩流的潭區裡，仔魚孵化後，隨水流漂至河口，幼魚則再成群洄溯至溪流中，屬雜食性，以底藻、水深昆蟲及小型甲殼類等為食。

可做為食用魚。
