Diagnostic Description ( الإنجليزية )

المقدمة من EOL authors
Trypauchenopsis is unique in having: ultimate fin ray in either the dorsal or anal fins (or both) bearing a forked pterygiophore, the middle radial of which is bifurcated such that the proximal radial adjoins one hemal (or neural) spine and the bifurcated arm adjoins the hemal (or neural) spine posterior to it; typically no pleural ribs or only a single pleural rib on ultimate precaudal vertebra; caducous, short, blunt, barbel-like processes scattered on entire surface of head (these barbels are easily lost, so specimens that have been handled repeatedly may lack them); basibranchial 4 absent. The genus comprises one species, T. intermedia, from South Africa, Burma (Myanmar), Indonesia, the Philippines, Micronesia, and Japan.

Taxonomy ( الإنجليزية )

المقدمة من EOL authors
Trypauchenopsis Volz, 1903a: 554 (type species, Trypauchenopsis intermedius Volz, 1903a, by original designation and monotypy) According to Article 30.1.2 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (1999), a genus-group name ending in –opsis is to be treated as feminine. Consequently, a feminine ending of the species name is required, which neccessitates the change from T. intermedius to T. intermedia.
