This is a bathydemersal fish which is found at depths of 1,337 to 1,750 m (4,386 to 5,741 ft) in the northeastern Atlantic Ocean off Iceland. Psychrolutes subspinosus is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van psychrolutiden (Psychrolutidae).[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1902 door Jensen.
