Exhibit ovoviparity (aplacental viviparity), with embryos feeding initially on yolk, then receiving additional nourishment from the mother by indirect absorption of uterine fluid enriched with mucus, fat or protein through specialised structures (Ref. 50449).

Found inshore (Ref. 9862). Inhabits mangrove creeks and protected sandy channels to a depth of at least 18 m; relatively uncommon (Ref. 37816). Active swimmer, travelling long distances; feeds on crustaceans and molluscs (Ref. 68964). Ovoviviparous (Ref. 50449). Caught occasionally by bottom trawl, tangle net and inshore gillnet fisheries. Utilized for its meat, but of limited value as it is not frequently landed (Ref. 58048). Presumably utilized for human consumption in the western central Pacific (Ref. 9862).

體盤寬比體盤長大1.85－1.9倍；前緣微凸，後緣凹入，內緣圓凸，後角尖突。吻短而鈍尖，向頭前下傾，突出於腹面上，吻長約等於體盤長1/7，稍大於眼間隔的1/2。眼中大，上側位，眼球徑約等於出水孔長1/2。眼間隔寬而微凸。出水孔狹長，約與吻長相等，上緣外展，蓋於孔上。鼻孔平橫，只露出一個卵狀入水孔；前鼻瓣寬大，連成方形口蓋，後部突出，後緣平切，細裂如短鬚，正中有一殘缺，伸達或伸過下頷；後鼻瓣的前部和側面轉入於鼻口溝中。口中大，平橫，約等於口前吻長2/3；顎膜圓襟形，後緣細裂；口底在咽頭前方具乳突5個。牙齒上下頷各7行，正中牙寬為長之4－5倍以上，側牙呈等邊六角形，或長比寬稍大；上頷齒圓凸；下頷齒面較平坦，前部略下陷，後部微凸．鰓孔狹小，距離約相等，最後兩個距離較近；第三鰓孔的寬等於第五鰓孔間的距離之1/4。腹鰭中大，在雌體長約為寬之1.5倍；在雄性體較狹長，長約為寬之兩倍；前緣斜直，前角圓形，後緣與內緣連合呈圓弧形；鰭角扁管形，後端鈍尖。背鰭一個，呈三角形；尾部細長，約為體長之4.5倍；尾無刺，側邊無皺褶，上下褶都退化；尾的前部兩側皮上有橫線紋，成竹節狀，兩側不對稱。背部褐色，具圓形黑緣白色斑點，在胸鰭上方者似排列成橫紋狀；有時白斑中間還具1暗色斑點，腹鰭外緣，背鰭上部及其內外緣都呈淡白色；尾部前部蛋白帶藍色，後部暗黑，腹部白色，胸鰭外角和後緣深褐色。(陳柔蓉、林沛立2012/11編寫)

The mottled eagle ray (Aetomylaeus maculatus) is a species of fish in the family Myliobatidae.
Description
The mottled eagle ray can grow up to 78 cm in disc width.[1] Little is known about this species, but based on similar species it is expected to produce an average of 4 offspring per year.[1] It has an exceptionally long spineless tail which is over six times longer than the body[2]
Range
It is found in China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Thailand. Its natural habitats are open seas, shallow seas, subtidal aquatic beds, and estuarine waters.[1]
