Rajella fyllae és una espècie de peix de la família dels raids i de l'ordre dels raïformes.
És ovípar[5] i les femelles ponen càpsules d'ous, les quals presenten com unes banyes a la closca.[7]
Menja animals bentònics, especialment invertebrats com ara copèpodes, amfípodes i Mysidacea.[8]
És un peix marí i d'aigües profundes (80°N-45°N, 77°W-37°E) que viu entre 170-2.050 m de fondària.[5][9]
Es troba a l'Oceà Atlàntic: el Canadà, les Illes Fèroe, França (incloent-hi Saint-Pierre i Miquelon), Groenlàndia, Islàndia, Irlanda, Noruega (incloent-hi Svalbard) i la Gran Bretanya.[10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29]
És inofensiu per als humans.[5]

Südlich reicht das Verbreitungsgebiet bis 45° N. Rajella fyllae ist die Typusart der Gattung Rajella.[1]
Der Fyllarochen erreicht eine Länge von etwa 55 cm. Die Rückenseite ist variabel von aschgrau bis dunkelbraun gefärbt und bei den meisten Exemplaren lebhaft mit hellen oder dunklen nicht deutlich abgegrenzten Flecken gemustert. Der Schwanz zeigt oft dunkle Querbalken. In einigen Regionen sind bei zahlreichen Tieren die Schnauze, die Augenregion und Teile des Rumpfes und der Brustflossen hell gefärbt. Die Unterseite ist hell, mit dunklen Flecken am Kopf, auf dem Bauch und am Schwanz. Die Rändern der Brustflossen und die hinteren Ränder der Bauchflosse sind dunkel. Bei einigen Exemplaren ist die Unterseite dunkel mit nur wenigen weißen Flecken.[1]
Die Körperscheibe ist rundlich und etwas breiter als lang. Die äußeren Enden der Brustflossen sind weit abgerundet, bei ausgewachsenen Männchen mehr als bei jüngeren und bei den Weibchen. Die Schnauze ist kurz und abgerundet mit einer kleinen Spitze. Der Schwanz ist deutlich länger als der Körper, seine Länge liegt bei etwa 60 % der Gesamtlänge. Er ist kräftig und wird zum Ende hinzunehmend dünner. Am Ende befinden sich zwei kleine Rückenflossen. Die gesamte Oberseite ist sehr rau mit zahlreichen Stacheln und kleinen Dornen. Diese konzentrieren sich besonders auf dem Kopf und der hinteren Körperscheibe aber nur bei ausgewachsenen Männchen sind die Brustflossen in der Mitte glatt. Bei größeren Exemplare liegen 5 bis 9 Dornen im Augenbereich, die in Form von Halbringen angeordnet sind, außerdem ein dreieckig geformtes Dornenfeld im Bereich von „Nacken“ und „Schultern“, eine Dornenreihe in der Mitte des Rückens und auf dem Schwanz bis zur ersten Rückenflosse, rechts und links flankiert von je einer weiteren Dornenreihe. Die Unterseite ist weitestgehend glatt. Die Zähne im Oberkiefer sind in 30 bis 38 Reihen angeordnet. Sie sind bei den Weibchen und jüngeren Männchen stumpf, bei den Männchen länger mit scharfen Spitzen.[1]
Der Fyllarochen ist relativ häufig und lebt auf Weichböden in Tiefen von 170 bis 700 Metern, ausnahmsweise auch bis in Tiefen von 2000 Metern, bei Wassertemperaturen von 1 bis 7 °C. Er ernährt sich vor allem von kleinen Krebstieren, unter anderem von Flohkrebsen und Schwebegarnelen. Die Rochen sind ovipar (eierlegend). Die hornigen Eikapseln sind rechteckig, sehr klein und 38 bis 42 mm lang und 24 bis 26 mm breit. An den Ecken befinden sich hornige Fäden, vorn längere als hinten. Da die Temperaturen im Lebensraum des Fyllarochens sehr niedrig sind dauert es Monate, möglicherweise auch ein Jahr bis zum Schlupf der Jungrochen, die dann 7 cm lang sind. Sie werden mit einer Länge von 45 bis 50 cm geschlechtsreif abhängig von der Wassertemperatur.[1]
Der Fyllarochen wird als Beifang in der Grundfischerei gefangen, gilt aber als ungefährdet.[1][2]

The scientific name fyllae refers to the ship HDMS Fylla, from where the holotype was collected by the Fylla scientific expeditions of 1884 and 1886 to Greenland.[5]
It is sometimes called the round ray or round skate,[6] but those names are also used for the family Urotrygonidae or the genera Heliotrygon and Irolita.[7][8] The name Fylla's ray is also used, perhaps by writers who thought that "Fylla" was the name of a person.[9][10]
The round ray lives in the North Atlantic Ocean and Arctic Ocean. It is a benthic fish, found in depths of 147–2,055 m (482–6,742 ft), typically 300–800 m (980–2,620 ft); in cold deeper continental shelf waters, 3–5.5 °C (37–42 °F).[11][12]
Like all rays, the round ray has a flattened body with broad, wing-like pectoral fins. Its maximum length is 60 cm (2.0 ft). Its dorsal (upper) surface is grey or brown, with the lower surface light gray or fawn, with dark patches on the pelvic fins and axils of pectoral fins.[13]
Rajella fyllae feeds on mysids, copepods, crustaceans and amphipods.[14]
In breeding, there is a distinct pairing of the male and female, with an "embrace." It is oviparous, the eggs being oblong with stiff pointed "horns" in the corners; they are deposited in sandy or muddy flats.[15]

Osiąga długość do około 55 cm. Ciało spłaszczone grzbietobrzusznie o kształcie rombowatej tarczy, płetwy piersiowe zaokrąglone. Pysk krótki, rozwartokątny, zakończony małym szpicem. Pomiędzy oczami silne kolce, nieregularny rząd kolców biegnie wzdłuż linii środkowej grzbietu i trzonu ogonowego. Po bokach trzony ogonowego również kilka nieregularnych rzędów kolców. Uzębienie składa się z 30–38 zębów, niskich, stożkowatych. Dwie małe płetwy grzbietowe łączą się z sobą na końcu trzonu ogonowego. Płetwa ogonowa zredukowana. Brak płetwy odbytowej.
Strona grzbietowa popielatoszara do czerwonobrązowej z nieregularnie rozmieszczonymi okrągłymi, ciemnobrązowawymi plamami. Strona brzuszna biaława, jasnoszara lub jasnobrązowa.
Żywi się początkowo skorupiakami, później także małymi rybami żyjącymi przy dnie.

Rundrocka (Rajella fyllae) är en broskfisk tillhörande familjen egentliga rockor som finns i norra Atlanten.
Rundrockan är en rocka med kort nos och rundade vingar, som ger den ett avrundat utseende.[3] Den har hudtänder vid ögonen och på ryggen[4], i 2 till 3 rader på ovansidan av stjärten samt i en rad på undersidan. Ryggsidan är ljusbrun till gråaktig; ungfiskar har dessutom stora, mörka markeringar på ryggen och mörka band på stjärten. Buksidan är grå med glesa svarta prickar samt saknar hudtänder. Fisken väger som mest 5 kg[5] och kan bli upp till 60 cm lång[6].
Arten är en bottenfisk som lever på ett djup mellan 170 och 2 050 m, vanligen 300 till 800 m. Födan utgörs av bottendjur som hoppkräftor, märlkräftor och pungräkor.[6]
Arten blir könsmogen vid en längd av 44 – 47 cm för hanar, 49 – 50 cm för honor.[1] Som brukligt bland rockor har den en parning där hanen omfamnar honan trots att den är äggläggande. De relativt små äggkapslarna, 2,5 gånger 4 cm, läggs på sand- eller dybotten.[6] De är släta, med ett av hörnen hornlikt utdraget.[5] Nykläckta ungar är strax under 11 cm långa.[1]
Rundrockan finns på båda sidor av norra Atlanten; i väster från Grönland och Newfoundland till Nova Scotia, vidare österut via Island, Färöarna, Norge till Spetsbergen och västra Sibirien samt söderöver via Shetlandsöarna och västra Brittiska öarna till Biscayabukten.[1][6] Den går in i Skagerack men har ej påträffats i Sverige.[5]
Arten är klassificerad som livskraftig ("LC") av IUCN; den är vanlig i stora delar av sitt utbredningsområde, och det lilla fiske som förekommer, främst oavsiktlig bifångst vid trålning, förefaller inte ha påverkat dess utbredning.[1]
