Manubrium and bulb coloration is brick-colored or red-orange.
Cold-water species. Found in the Barents Sea, White Sea, Laptev Sea, Sea of Okhotsk, Chukchi Sea
A characteristic feature of the species is that juvenile specimens (around 5 mm), have only one tentacle. As the jellyfish gets larger, the 3 other tentacles develop - so it is possible to find specimens with 1, 2, 3 or 4 tentacles of different length, or 4 tentacles of equal length in adults.
Umbrella elongate, with thick walls. Large tapered manubrium extends to 2/3 of the umbrella length, rarely reaches the edge. Bulbs massive, without ocelli. The gonad is large, is wrapped around the manubrium like a ring along most of its length, except for the mouth end.
Umbrella height up to 17 mm, width up to 7 mm.
