Vanga hákozobá (Vanga curvirostris) je zpěvný pták, který je endemitem ostrova Madagaskar. Dosahuje délky 25–30 cm a váhy 50–80 gramů. Má černobílé zbarvení a zahnutou horní část zobáku, pohlavní dimorfismus není znatelný. Je relativně hojný, obývá rozsáhlý areál, zahrnující suché i vlhké subtropické a tropické lesy až do nadmořské výšky 1200 m.[2] Živí se hmyzem, žábami a chameleóny, vybírá také hnízda jiných ptáků. Je monogamním a teritoriálním druhem, ozývá se pronikavým hvízdáním.
Vanga hákozobá patří do monotypického rodu Vanga (dříve byl do něj řazen také Pycnonotus flaviventris, který však byl později překlasifikován mezi bulbuly).[3] Vanga hákozobá má dva poddruhy:

Der Hakenschnabelvanga ist ein 25–29 cm großer und 53–81 g schwerer, schwarz-weiß gefiederter Vogel mit weißem Kopf und schwarzer Kappe, kräftigem schwarzen Schnabel mit charakteristischem Haken an der Spitze und weißen Streifen auf den schwarzen Flügeln. Brust und Bauch sind schwarz, bei Jungtieren grau, der Schwanz ist grau mit breiter schwarzer Binde und weißer Spitze. Männchen und Weibchen unterscheiden sich kaum.[3][4]
Der Hakenschnabelvanga ernährt sich von großen Insekten und kleinen Wirbeltieren, auch von Fröschen, kleinen Vögeln, Vogeleiern oder Chamäleons.[4]
Der Hakenschnabelvanga ist auf Madagaskar endemisch. Sein Lebensraum sind subtropische oder tropische Trockenwälder, feuchte Tieflandwälder und Bergwälder, er ist aber auch in der Nähe von Ortschaften anzutreffen.[3][4]
Die Brutsaison liegt zwischen Oktober und Januar. Die Vögel sind monogam, das Nest wird vom Männchen und Weibchen gemeinsam gebaut.[4]

Linnaeus included a brief description, coined the binomial name Lanius curvirostris and cited Brisson's work.[4] It is now the only species placed in the genus Vanga that was introduced by the French ornithologist Louis Jean Pierre Vieillot in 1816.[5]
The genus name Vanga is the Malagasy name for the species. The specific epithet curvirostris is from Latin curvus "curved" and -rostrum "billed".[6]

La specie è endemica del Madagascar, ove è abbastanza comune dal livello del mare sino a 1.500 m di altitudine.
L'habitat tipico della sottospecie V. c. cetera è la foresta spinosa del sud dell'isola, mentre la sottospecie nominale è presente sia nelle foreste pluviali del versante orientale che nella foresta decidua secca nord-occidentale, nonché in aree antropizzate (giardini, piantagioni).
La specie è relativamente comune ed ha un areale abbastanza ampio; per tali ragioni la IUCN Red List la classifica come specie a basso rischio (Least Concern).[1]

De haaksnavelvanga is middelgroot, 25 tot 29 cm lang. Meest opvallend is het zwart-wit contrast in het verenkleed. Hij verschilt van de andere twee soorten met een opvallend zwart-wit verenkleed (de sikkelvanga en de witkopvanga) door zijn relatief korte snavel met aan het eind een haak (waarop een zilverkleurig vlekje). De haaksnavelvanga is verder zwart boven het oog en dit zwart loopt door tot achter op de kop. De kop onder het oog en op het voorhoofd is wit en dit wit loopt door tot de buik. De staart in van boven grijs, verder zwart en heeft witte punten op de uiteinden van de staartveren. Mannetje en vrouwtje verschillen onderling niet, onvolwassen vogels hebben bruine vlekken op de vleugels.
De haaksnavelvanga komt vrij algemeen voor op Madagaskar in verschillende typen bos, in struikgewas, in gebieden rond dorpen en in aanplantingen, tot op een hoogte van 1500 m boven de zeespiegel. [2]
