Ye un ave mayormente terrestre, qu'habita nel valle central de Chile, la cordal de la Mariña, y la precordillera, dende'l nivel del mar hasta una altitú de 1700 msnm.
La so llongura ye de 18 a 19 cm. Dorsalmente ye pardu con tonos acolorataos. La ceya ye blancu-cremosa, al igual que lo ventral, esti con rayes tresversales negres.[2]
Escargata la tierra colos sos fuertes pates negres en busca del so alimentu: inseutos, arácnidos, y moluscos, a los que complementa con pequeños llagartos. Ante un posible peligru, fuxi corriendo en cuenta de faelo volando. Marca'l so territoriu con un fuerte y característicu reclamu vocal.
Reproduzse en septiembre o ochobre. Constrúi cueves en fuécares, y nel so interior ovipone 2 a 3 güevos blancos, de 27 mm de llongura por 22 mm de diámetru.
Esta especie describióse orixinalmente pol ornitólogu xermanu Friedrich Heinrich von Kittlitz nel añu 1830, sol nome científicu de: Pteroptochos albicollis. La so llocalidá tipu ye: «Valparaiso, Chile».[3]

The white-throated tapaculo (Scelorchilus albicollis) is a species of bird in the family Rhinocryptidae. It is endemic to Chile.
The white-throated tapaculo has two subspecies. The nominate Scelorchilus albicollis albicollis was described by Kittlitz in 1830. The second, S. a. atacamae, was described by Carl Eduard Hellmayr in 1924.[2]
The adult of the nominate subspecies of white-throated tapaculo has a cinnamon forehead, a bold white supercilium, and gray-brown upper parts. The rump is lightly barred. The underparts are whitish darkening to pale cinnamon on the belly. Most of the underparts have dark brown bars. The subspecies S. a. atacamae is similarly colored but paler; in particular the upper parts are much more gray than brown. The juveniles are similar to the adults but barred all over. The white-throated tapaculo is approximately 19 cm (7.5 in) long.[3]
The white-throated tapaculo is found only in Chile. Subspecies S. a. atacamae ranges from the Antofagasta Region south to the northern part of the Coquimbo Region. S. a. albicollis is found from the Coquimbo Region south to the Maule Region.[3] The more northern part of its range is characterized by xeric shrublands and the more southerly part by woodlands and scrub in a Mediterranean climate.[4] The species is usually found from sea level to 1,000 m (3,300 ft) but also up to 1,600 m (5,200 ft). It is thought to be sedentary.[3]
The white-throated tapaculo's diet is almost exclusively arthropods. It forages mostly on the ground in dense cover.[3]
The white-throated tapaculo's nest is a cup made of soft grass built at the end of a tunnel up to 2 m (6.6 ft) long. Eggs are laid in September and October. Both the male and the female incubate the eggs and feed the nestlings.[3]
The white-throated tapaculo sings from the ground or a low perch. The typical song is a series of "barking" notes falling in pitch [1]. The call is a harsh grunt that has been compared to a pig's [2].[3]
The IUCN has assessed the white-throated tapaculo as of Least Concern. It has a fairly large range that includes some protected areas. The population has not been quantified but the species is "fairly common" and their number is believed to be stable.[1][3]

Se distribuye en el norte y centro de Chile, desde Atacama hasta Curicó.[2]
Es un ave mayormente terrestre, que habita en el valle central de Chile, la cordillera de la Costa, y la precordillera, desde el nivel del mar hasta una altitud de 1700 msnm.[4] Es poco común en zonas con matorrales densos, principalmente abajo de los 1000 msnm.[5]
Su largo es de 18 a 19 cm. Dorsalmente es pardo con tonos rojizos. La ceja es blanco-cremosa, al igual que lo ventral, este con rayas transversales negras.[6]
Acostumbra andar junto con la turca Pteroptochos megapodius, pero permanece mucho más bajo cubierta y así es más difícil de ver, algunas veces corriendo rápidamente de un parche de vegetación a otro, la larga cola levantada perpendicular al suelo.[5] Ante un posible peligro, huye corriendo en vez de hacerlo volando. Marca su territorio con un fuerte y característico reclamo vocal.
Escarba la tierra con sus fuertes patas negras en busca de su alimento: insectos, arácnidos, y moluscos, a los que complementa con pequeños lagartos.
Se reproduce en septiembre u octubre. Construye cuevas en barrancas, y en su interior ovipone 2 a 3 huevos blancos, de 27 mm de largo por 22 mm de diámetro.
El canto es un sonoro y onomatopéyico “tá-pa, tá-pa-cu-lo, tá-pa-cu-lo, tá-pa-cu, tá-pá-cu, tá-cu, tá-cu”. También sabe dar un repetido “jua-pu, jua-pu, jua-pu...” y otro repetido “pu-pu-pu-pu-pu-pah”.[5]
Esta especie fue descrita originalmente por el ornitólogo germano Friedrich Heinrich von Kittlitz en el año 1830, bajo el nombre científico de: Pteroptochos albicollis. Su localidad tipo es: «Valparaiso, Chile».[7]

Skrzydła brązowe, pokrywy skrzydłowe na końcu posiadają czarno-białą plamkę. Spód ciała białawy, na brzuchu jasnocynamonowy. Gardło bez wzorów, zaś reszta spodu ciała, boki szyi i ciała pokrywają brązowe pasy. Najszersze są na bokach i w okolicach kloaki. Tęczówka brązowa, dziób czarny, szarawy u nasady, nogi i stopy czarne. Osobniki młodociane pokryte paskami. Podgatunek atacamae wyróżnia jaśniejsze upierzenie bez barwy brązowej z wierzchu oraz krótszy dziób[3].
Wyróżnia się następujące podgatunki[5]:
Środowisko życia stanowią gęste formacje roślinne typu matorral. Spotykany od poziomu morza po 1600 m n.p.m.[3]
Pieśń stanowi trwająca około 2,5 sekundy seria 9-10 dźwięków ooer o częstotliwości początkowo 0,7 kHz, potem 0,6-10,8 kHz. Głos donośny, niekiedy serie trwają krócej lub pierwszy dźwięk najwyższy. Zwykle przebywa na ziemi, choć śpiewa z niskiej gałęzi. Zawołanie stanowi ostre, krótkie, podobne do świńskiego charknięcie. Pożywienie stanowią stawonogi, żeruje ukryty w gęstej roślinności.
Okres składania jaj przypada na wrzesień i październik. Gniazdo stanowi otwarty kubeczek z miękkiej trawy, umieszczony w zagłębieniu długiego na 1-2 m tunelu w ziemi. Niekiedy wykopuje własny tunel, lecz zwykle używa nory utworzonej przez koszatniczkę pospolitą (Octodon degus). Zniesienie liczy 2-3 jaja, u podgatunku nominatywnego mają wymiary około 27,3 na 20 mm, zaś u atacamae 27,2 na 22 mm. Oba ptaki z pary wysiadują jaja i opiekują się młodymi, lecz szczegóły pozostają nieznane[3].
Przez IUCN gatunek klasyfikowany jest jako najmniejszej troski (LC, Least Concern). Występuje w obszarze Endemic Bird Area oznaczonym jako Central Chile. Z obszarów chronionych spotykany jest w jednym, jest to Park Narodowy La Campana oraz prawdopodobnie również w PN Bosque de Fray Jorge[3].

Acesta este distribuit în nordul și centrul din Chile, din Atacama până la Curico.
Este o pasăre în mare parte terestră, care trăiesc în valea centrală a țării Chile, cordillera de la Costa și Anzi, de la nivelul mării până la altitudinea de 1700 de metri deasupra nivelului mării.[4] Este mai puțin frecvent în zonele cu floră mai densă, cea mai mare parte sub 1000 m.[5]
Lungimea sa cariază între 18/19 cm. Pe partea dorsală este brun cu nuanțe de roșu. Sprânceana este alb-crem, aidoma părții ventrale, cu dungi negre transversale.[6]
Merge, deobicei, împreună cu turca Pteroptochos megapodius, dar rămâne cu mult mai mult sub acoperire și deci, este mai greu de văzut, uneori, zboară rapid de la un petic de vegetație la altul, coada lunga este ridicată perpendicular cu solul. În fața unui posibil pericol, scapă fugind, mai degrabă decât zburând. Își marchează teritoriul cu puternice și distinctive sunete vocale.
Sapă pământul cu puternicile lui picioare negre, în căutarea hrănii: insecte, arahnide, și moluște, complementat de șopârle mici.
Se reproduce în septembrie sau octombrie. Construiește peșteri pe stânci, și în interiorul său pune 2 sau 3 ouă albe, de 27 mm și 22 mm de diametru.
Cântul ei e onomatopeic “tá-pa, tá-pa-cu-lo, tá-pa-cu-lo, tá-pa-cu, tá-pá-cu, tá-cu, tá-cu”. Sau “jua-pu, jua-pu, jua-pu...” ori “pu-pu-pu-pu-pu-pah”.
