Der Bunt-Bartvogel (Eubucco versicolor) ist eine Vogelart aus der Familie der Amerikanischen Bartvögel. Die farbenprächtige Art, die einen sehr auffälligen Sexualdimorphismus zeigt, kommt in Südamerika vor. Es werden mehrere Unterarten unterschieden. Die IUCN stuft den Bunt-Bartvogel als nicht gefährdet (least concern) ein.
Die Männchen der Nominatform erreichen eine Flügellänge von 6,8 bis 7,4 Zentimetern. Der Schwanz ist zwischen 4,7 und 5,6 Zentimeter lang. Die Schnabellänge beträgt 1,8 bis 2,2 Zentimeter.[1]
Die Männchen weisen rechts und links an der Schnabelbasis einen feinen schwarzen Strich auf, die Stirn, der Oberkopf und die Ohrdecken sind rot. Die Region um die Augen ist jeweils schwarz. Eine feine, blassblaue Linie grenzt den roten Oberkopf vom grünlichen Nackengefieder ab. Die übrige Körperoberseite ist grün mit einem bläulichen Schimmer. Die Steuerfedern sind bronzegrün mit schwarzbraunen Federschäften. Das Kinn ist schwarz, die rote Kehle ist von zwei blassblauen Flecken eingerahmt. Die Brust ist goldgelb. Über den Bauch verläuft ein rotes Band, das an den Körperseiten endet. Die Körperseiten und Flanken sind dunkelgrün und weiß gestreift. Der Schnabel ist im Verhältnis zur Körpergröße lang, der Oberschnabel leicht gebogen. Die Schnabelfarbe ist limonengrün bis gelbgrün, die Schnabelspitze gelb. Die unbefiederte Haut rund um die Augen ist schwarz, die Augen sind bei den meisten Individuen dunkelrot.
Beim Weibchen sind das Kinn, die Region zwischen Schnabel und Augen und die Stirn schwarz, die Ohrdecken und die Kehle dagegen hellblau. Der Oberkopf ist grüngelblich, der Nacken etwas grünlicher. Ein gelber bis matt orangefarbener Streifen verläuft über den Augen sowie entlang der Nackenseiten. Die übrige Körperoberseite ist grünlich mit einem etwas ausgeprägteren Blauton als beim Männchen. Ein schmales orangerotes Band trennt die Kehle von der Brust. Die Vorderbrust ist blass grünblau bis blass gelblich-grün. Die untere Brust ist matt grüngelb. Die Körperseiten, die Flanken und der Bauch sowie die Unterschwanzdecken sind gelbgrün gestreift.[2]
Die Körperform der Bunt-Bartvögel erinnert an Tangaren. Die einzige andere Bartvogelart, mit der der Bunt-Bartvogel verwechselt werden kann, ist der Anden-Bartvogel. Die Verbreitungsgebiete der beiden Arten überlappen in Nordperu. Die Weibchen der Bunt-Bartvögel können von den Weibchen der Anden-Bartvögel durch ihre hellblaue Kehle unterschieden werden. Die Männchen unterscheiden sich von den Männchen der Anden-Bartvögel durch ihre blauen Flecke an den Kopfseiten.[1]
Der Bunt-Bartvogel kommt in Wäldern der östlichen Anden vom Norden Perus bis in die Mitte Boliviens vor. Er lebt gewöhnlich in Höhenlagen zwischen 1000 und 2000 Metern, kommt aber im Norden Perus auch schon in Höhenlagen von 675 Metern vor.
Die Lebensraumanforderungen des Bunt-Bartvogels sind bislang nur unzureichend untersucht. Er bevorzugt feuchte, tropische und subtropische Bergwälder mit dichtem Unterwuchs und reichem Vorkommen von Bromelien, Epiphyten und Moosen. Er dringt gelegentlich auch in älteren Sekundärwald vor. Nahrung sucht er an Bäumen meistens in einem Höhenbereich von etwa zehn Metern, kommt aber auch bis auf einen Meter in Bodennähe herab.[3] Früchte machen den größten Teil seiner Nahrung aus. Es frisst daneben aber auch Insekten, die er gewöhnlich findet, indem er trockene Blätter durchsucht, die sich in Astgabeln gesammelt haben. Er lebt normalerweise einzelgängerisch, nur an Bäumen, die reichlich Früchte tragen, werden gelegentlich mehrere Anden-Bartvögel beobachtet. Die Fortpflanzungsbiologie dieser Art ist bislang nicht untersucht.[3]

The versicolored barbet (Eubucco versicolor) is a very colorful species of bird in the family Capitonidae, the New World barbets. It is found in Bolivia and Peru.[1]
The versicolored barbet was described by Statius Müller in 1776 as Bucco versicolor, based on a specimen collected in Maynas Province, Peru.[2] Its taxonomy is in flux. The South American Classification Committee of the American Ornithological Society (AOS), the International Ornithological Committee (IOC), and the Clements taxonomy treat it as one species with three subspecies. The HBW and BirdLife International Illustrated Checklist of the Birds of the World treats the three as individual species.[2][3]

The versicolored barbet is multicolored and like all barbets has a sturdy bill. The subspecies differ in their plumage, but all the males have a red face and crown and green to blue-green upperparts. The males' lower breasts are red and their bellies yellowish with green streaks, though the size and shape of the red vary. The female's upperparts are also green to blue-green and their bellies a similar yellowish with green streaks. All the subspecies are approximately 16 cm (6.3 in) long but differ in their weights.[4]
The nominate "blue-moustached" form weighs 28 to 39 g (0.99 to 1.38 oz). The male has a red throat with a thin blue band below it. It has a blue malar patch (the "moustache") and a blue band separating the red head from the greenish back. Its upper breast is yellow. The female has a greenish cap, blue malars with a yellow edge, and a blue throat with a thin red band below it.[4]
The "blue-cowled" form weighs 31 to 37 g (1.1 to 1.3 oz). The back of the male's head and nape (the "cowl") are blue. It has a red chin and yellow malars and throat. The female's crown and nape are yellow. Its face, throat, and upper breast are blue with a thin red crescent dividing the throat and breast.[4]
The "blue-chinned" form weighs 26 to 41 g (0.92 to 1.45 oz). The male has a thin blue band behind the head like the "blue-moustached" form and a yellow malar. It has successive bands of red, blue, and orange between its bill and its yellow upper breast. The female has a yellow crown and nape. Its face and throat are blue with a red band below the latter.[4]
The nominate "blue-moustached" barbet is found from Peru's Cuzco and Puno Regions eastward to Cochabamba Department in north central Bolivia. The "blue-cowled" form is found only in Peru, from west central Amazonas south to northern Huánuco. The "blue-chinned" form is also found only in Peru, along the eastern slope of the Andes from eastern Huánuco to northern Cuzco.[4]
All subspecies of the versicolored barbet inhabit humid submontane forest, especially those heavy with epiphytes and mosses, as well as mature secondary forest. The nominate also inhabits dry forest in Bolovia. All three typically range in elevation from 1,000 to 2,000 m (3,300 to 6,600 ft) but can be found as high as 2,225 m (7,300 ft).[4]
Only the nominate form of versicolored barbet's diet and foraging technique have been studied; those of the other forms are assumed to be similar. About 80% of its diet is fruits and seeds and the remainder mostly arthropods. It forages alone, in pairs, and sometimes with mixed-species foraging flocks, usually between 10 and 25 m (33 and 82 ft) above the ground. It seeks arthropod prey by poking and tearing clusters of dead leaves.[4]
The subspecies of the versicolored barbet have not been studied individually. The species apparently breeds between July and December. One nest (of the nominate) has been described; it was in a tree hole and contained three eggs.[4]
No differences are known in the vocalizations of the versicolored barbet's subspecies. Its song is " a fast, low-pitched trill" [1].[4]
The IUCN has separately assessed the three subspecies of versicolored barbet. The "blue-moustached" and "blue-cowled" forms are considered of Least Concern, though until 2020 the latter had been rated Near Threatened.[5][6] The "blue-chinned" form is considered Near Threatened. It "could be undergoing a moderately rapid decline...[and] the population may be moderately small".[7]

El cabezón versicolor, cabezón versicolor del sur, capitán verde celeste o barbudo versicolor (Eubucco versicolor)[2] es una especie de ave piciforme de la familia Capitonidae que habita en las montañas del oeste de América del Sur.
Mide alrededor de 16 cm de largo.[3] Presenta dimorfismo sexual. El plumaje de las partes superiores de los machos es verde y su vientre blanquecino moteado en verde. La parte frontal de su rostro, píleo y garganta son rojas, enmarcadas por una lista azul claro en la parte posterior. Su lorum desnudo es negro y presenta algunas cerdas también negras alrededor del pico. Tiene el pecho amarillo en la parte superior con una franja roja en la parte inferior. Sus anchas bigoteras son azules o amarillas según las subespecies. Las hembras son verdes, con el rostro y garganta azules, con una fina media luna roja enmarcándolos en la parte superior del pecho. Su pico es robusto, relativamente largo y amarillento.
Se encuentra en los bosques húmedos de las yungas de los Andes orientales de Perú y Bolivia.
