Neocicada chisos occurs primarily in Mexico, but its northern range extends into southwestern Texas. It is restricted to mountains in Texas but extends to lower elevation Chihuahuan Desert areas of Mexico. Itis often found in oaks (Quercus gravesii Sudworth and Q. graciliformis Muller) in riparian habitats, but has also been found calling from Texas madrone (Arbutus spp.). (Sanborn & Phillips 2013)
