Plants were almost completely confined to the eroded outcrops and gravel beds of serpentine on hillside slopes, in all stages of mature seasonal growth: flower buds, open blooms, and maturing capsules. Plants not in the rockiest spots showed herbivore damage with upper buds and/or seed capsules missing - perhaps from the cattle roaming this open space. This specimen was particularly large for the population owing to its lack of grazing damage.
