Aloe erinacea ist eine Pflanzenart der Gattung der Aloen in der Unterfamilie der Affodillgewächse (Asphodeloideae). Das Artepitheton erinacea stammt aus dem Lateinischen, bedeutet ‚Igel‘ und verweist auf die stachlige Erscheinung der Blattrosetten.[1]
Aloe erinacea wächst stammbildend, einfach oder in der Regel in Gruppen. Der Stamm ist aufrecht und kurz oder wird mit der Zeit niederliegend und erreicht dann eine Länge von bis zu 60 Zentimeter. Er ist mit ausdauernden toten Blättern besetzt. Die deltoid-lanzettlichen Laubblätter bilden dichte Rosetten. Die trüb tiefgrüne bis bräunlich grüne Blattspreite ist 8 bis 16 Zentimeter lang und 2 bis 4 Zentimeter breit. Die Blattunterseite ist gekielt. Der Kiel ist mit wenigen schwärzlich-braunen Stacheln besetzt. Die stechenden, schwärzlich-braunen Zähne am Blattrand sind 5 bis 9 Millimeter lang und stehen 10 bis 15 Millimeter voneinander entfernt. Der Blattsaft ist zitronengelb.
Der einfache Blütenstand erreicht eine Länge von bis zu 100 Zentimeter. Die dichten, zylindrisch verschmälerten Trauben sind bis zu 26 Zentimeter lang. Die Brakteen weisen eine Länge von bis zu 30 Millimeter auf und sind 4,5 Millimeter breit. Die roten Blüten werden gelblich und stehen an 19 Millimeter langen Blütenstielen. Die Blüten sind etwa 28 Millimeter lang und an ihrer Basis gerundet. Oberhalb des Fruchtknotens sind sie leicht erweitert und schließlich zur Mündung leicht verengt. Ihre äußeren Perigonblätter sind fast nicht miteinander verwachsen. Die Staubblätter ragen etwa 4 Millimeter, der Griffel bis zu 7 Millimeter aus der Blüte heraus.
Aloe erinacea ist in Namibia auf felsigen Hügeln verbreitet.
Die Erstbeschreibung durch David Spencer Hardy wurde 1971 veröffentlicht.[2] Ein nomenklatorisches Synonym ist Aloe melanacantha var. erinacea (D.S.Hardy) G.D.Rowley (1980)[3] Aloe erinacea ist eng mit Aloe melanacantha verwandt.
Aloe erinacea wird in der Roten Liste gefährdeter Arten der IUCN als „Endangered (EN)“, d. h. stark gefährdet eingestuft.[4]

Aloe erinacea (locally known as the "Goree") is a rare species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, from arid areas of Namibia.
It is endemic to Namibia. Its natural habitats are high mountain slopes in dry shrubland and rocky areas.
It naturally occurred over a very wide range, but this area is now highly fragmented due to is habitat loss, with different subpopulations being widely separated from each other. The species is also severely threatened by illegal collecting for the plant trade.[1]
This plant is sometimes classified as a subspecies or variety of the more common Aloe melanacantha, which occurs just to the south of the Namibian border, in the Namaqualand of South Africa. However Aloe erinacea is also considered by many authorities to be simply a closely related sister species of its more common relative to the south, with the two forming a continuum.
Superficially, Aloe erinacea looks almost identical to Aloe melanacantha, however it is slightly smaller and it sometimes grows into dense clumps due to offsetting. [2]

Es una planta suculenta, que alcanza un tamaño de 20-30 cm de altura, por lo general en pequeños grupos compactos. Las hojas deltoides-lanceoladas, de color gris-verdosa o gris-azulada, superficie superior a menudo con espinas negras, la superficie inferior con quilla oscura hacia el ápice, la quilla con una hilera de espinas negras, los márgenes armados con dientes negros. Las inflorescencia en forma de racimo con pedúnculo de hasta 1 m de largo, con brácteas deltoides-agudas. Las flores de color carmesí en flor, de color naranja amarillento en la floración.
Aloe erinacea es endémica en el sur de Namibia y crece en las bolsas de suelo arenoso en los afloramientos rocosos en la parte del desierto de Namib con lluvias invernales muy bajas. Es más común en algunas partes de Sperrgebiet.[3][4]
Aloe erinacea fue descrita por D.S.Hardy y publicado en Bothalia 10: 366, en el año 1971.[5]
