Acer negundoBox elder, Boxelder maple, Maple AshSlo.: amerikanski javorDat.: May 23. 2012Lat.: 46.34015 Long.: 13.56075Code: Bot_620/2012_IMG9365Habitat: Edge of wet marsh, a long time ago abandoned, manmade, large clay pit, in a thicket of tall herbs, shrubs and trees mostly Salix sp., Acer sp., Fraxinus excelsior, Fraxinus ornus, Euonymus europaea, Cornus sanguinea, etc.; flat terrain, thick muddy ground, cretaceous clastic rock (flysh) bedrock, humid place, average precipitations ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 8-10 deg C, elevation 450 m (1.500 feet), alpine phytogeographical region.Substratum: clayey soil.Place: Bovec basin, Northeast of town Bovec, Frnjaa place, East Julian Alps, Posoje, Slovenia EC Comment: This species is introduced from North America. In Slovenia it presently grows mostly along main Slovenian rivers: upper Soa, Mura, Drava and lower Sava. It is not considered very aggressive and little if any efforts have been made worldwide to eradicate or control it. Actually in Slovenia it is quite uncommon to see it. If no fruiting material is observable, the species, because of its pinnate foliage, could easily be falsely determined as something else. The leaves do not resemble to 'traditional' Acer shape. However, when present, it's immediately clear that it belongs to the maple (Aceraceae) family. Pictures are made at the most northern known location in the Soa valley. It has been discovered only recently.

Acer negundo 'ringed' (
for ringing method see also here): national park management is also ringing here
Ailanthus altissima, besides
Acer negundo. Invasiver
Eschen-Ahorn 'geringelt' (
