Mormotomyia is a genus of Diptera (flies) that contains one species, M. hirsuta. It is the only genus in family Mormotomyiidae. It has been found in only one location in Eastern Kenya, in a cave-like cleft in a rock at the apex of Ukasi Hill.A specialized, trogolomorphic species, M. hirsutahas been difficult to place among other dipteran species.A finding of multiple specimens in 2010 has opened up new possibilites for understanding this very rare, monotypic genus.
