Color pattern consisting of a wide longitudinal dark stripe superposed over the bar pattern and obscuring it, its width under dorsal origin is about 2.0-2.3 times in body depth; color pattern usually over a dark background (juveniles apparently go through various color patterns during their growth and large specimens usually dull dark brown). Lateral line reaching to below dorsal fin; complete black basal caudal bar; 8 1/2 branched dorsal rays; males without suborbital flap (Ref. 39226).

Schistura menanensis is a species of ray-finned fish, a stone loach in the genus Schistura. It has only been recorded in the Mae Nam Nan drainage, a branch of the Chao Phraya in Thailand where it has been observed in streams with moderate to fast currents, in riffles, with gravel to stone beds. The specific name menanensis refers to the type locality of this species on the Mae Nam Nam.
