An erect shrub with puberulent twigs; leaf-blades obovate to oblong-obovate or ovalobovate, 2-5 cm. long, mostly obtuse or rounded at the apex and minutely gland-tipped, serndate-crenate and minutely glandular-ciliate, glabrous or nearly so and glaucous beneath, bright-green and sparingly strigose above, short-petioled, the petioles puberulent; pedicels puberulent and often somewhat glandular ; calyx prominently lobed, rather short-ciliate ; corolla ovoid-campanulate or urceolate, 7-9 mm. long, the lobes half-orbicular or ovate-orbicular; stamens 6-8 mm. long; capsules oval or obovoid-oval, 5-8 mm. long, minutely pubescent; seeds about 2-2.5 mm. long.
Type locality: Rocky Mountains, lat. 49°-56°.
Distribution: Alberta and British Columbia to Wyoming and Idaho, and said to occiir eastward to Lake Superior.
