Stems erect or decumbent, 1-2 dm. tall, villous but sometimes sparingly so, arising from horizontal rootstocks ; leaflets deep-green, the blades 8-14 mm. broad,' glabrous at least at maturity, except the sometimes ciliate margins ; peduncles about as long as the petioles or somewhat longer; pedicels villous, refracted in fruit; sepals 6-7 mm. long at maturity; petals golden-yellow, 15-19 mm. long; longer filaments pubescent; capsules columnar, stout, 14-19 mm. long, minutely but finely pubescent, abruptly narrowed at the apex.
Tvpe LOCALITY : Middle Kentucky.
Distribution : Kentucky to Alabama.

Stems erect, 1-2 dm. tall, copiously villous-hirsute, arising from long horizontal rootstocks ; leaflets light-green, the blades 8-17 mm. broad, with scattered hairs on both surfaces and ciliate ; peduncles longer than the petioles ; pedicels villous-hirsute, refracted in fruit ; sepals 6-7 mm. long at maturity ; petals golden-yellow, 14-17 mm. long ; longer filaments glabrous ; capsules columnar, stout, 10-12 mm. long, hirsute, abruptly narrowed at the apex.
Type locality : Nashville, Tennessee.
Distribution : Tennessee to Georgia.
