Stigmaphyllon ovatum Niedzu. Gen. Stigmat. 31. 1900. Leaf-blades ovate, ovate-lanceolate, or oblong-lanceolate, 4-11 cm. long, acute or obtuse at the apex, deep-green and ultimately glabrous above, paler and often permanently but sparingly pubescent beneath, acute or rounded at the base, short-petioled ; peduncles ascending; bracts ovate to orbicular-ovate, mostly 2-4 cm. long; sepals ovate to oblongovate, 3.5-4 mm. long, the glands fully one half the length of the sepal-body ; larger petals 11-13 mm. long; samaras 1.5-2 cm. long, the wing usually shorter than the body which is transversely tuberculate-ribbed.
Type locality : Santo Domingo.
Distribution : West Indies and Central America ; also in northern South America.
