Inhabits flat bottoms of sand, coral rubble, seagrass or mud (Ref. 13442). Occurs from water's edge to at least 275 m depth. Feeds on mollusks, crabs, fishes, polychaete worms and algae (Ref. 13442). May be caught by hand (Ref. 13442). Rarely used for food (Ref. 26938). Traded as an aquarium fish at Ceará, Brazil (Ref. 49392).

El pez murciélago común, diablo, murciélago tapacaminos, Morocochongo (en México) o pez-diablo ñato (en Cuba), es la especie Ogcocephalus nasutus, un pez marino de la familia Ogcocephalidae distribuido por la costa oeste del océano Atlántico, desde Florida hasta el norte de Brasil, así como por el mar Caribe y el golfo de México.[1] Rara vez es pescado como alimento.
Anatomía
La longitud máxima del cuerpo es de 38 cm;[2] sin espinas en las aletas.[1] Todo el cuerpo y la cabeza están recubiertos de tubérculos cónicos.[3] Las aletas pectorales de color negro a la distancia, siendo el vientre de color pardo brillante.[4]
Hábitat y forma de vida
Suele vivir asociado a arrecifes de aguas tropicales, en aguas poco profundas entre 0 y 305 metros.[5] Habita tanto los suelos arenosos como las zonas rocosas de coral y las praderas de algas, donde se alimenta de moluscos, crustáceos, peces, gusanos poliquetos y algas.[3]

Vissen De vleermuisvis (Ogcocephalus nasutus) is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van vleermuisvissen (Ogcocephalidae).[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1829 door Cuvier.
Vis met pootjes
De vleermuisvis is geen goede zwemmer. In plaats daarvan kan de vis zijn ondervinnen gebruiken om te "lopen" over de zeebodem waar hij in het zand foerageert met weekdieren. De vis komt ook voor op de koraalriffen van de Caribische Zee. Als de vleermuisvis het volwassen stadium bereikt, verandert zijn rugvin in een stekel, verondersteld om prooien mee te lokken.[2]
