Pycnonotus dodsoni Sharpe 1895

Dodson's bulbul (Pycnonotus dodsoni) is a member of the bulbul family of passerine birds.^[1] It is found in eastern Africa.

Taxonomy and systematics

Some authorities treat the Dodson's bulbul as a subspecies of the common bulbul and formerly it has also been considered as a subspecies of the dark-capped bulbul. Alternate names include the Somali geelgat and African white-eared bulbul as well a name already in use by another species (white-eared bulbul).^[2]

Distribution and habitat

Dodson's bulbul is found from northern Somalia and south-eastern Ethiopia to east-central Kenya.^[1]

Le Bulbul de Dodson (Pycnonotus dodsoni) est une espèce de passereaux de la famille des Pycnonotidae.

Répartition

Il se trouve en Éthiopie, au Kenya, au Libéria, en Somalie, en Tanzanie et à Zanzibar.

Systématique

Pour certains ornithologistes, il s'agit d'une sous-espèce de Bulbul des jardins (Pycnonotus barbatus).

De Dodsons buulbuul (Pycnonotus dodsoni) is een zangvogel uit de familie van de Buulbuuls (Pycnonotidae).^[1]

Verspreiding en leefgebied

Het is een algemene standvogel in Oost-Afrika. De Dodsons buulbuul wordt samen met de driekleurbuulbuul (P. tricolor) en de Somalische buulbuul (P. somaliensis) vaak nog als ondersoort beschouwd van de grauwe buulbuul (P. barbatus) onder andere door BirdLife International. Deze vogels lijken uiterlijk en qua gedrag sterk op elkaar.

Dodsonbulbyl^[1] (Pycnonotus dodsoni) är en fågel i familjen bulbyler inom ordningen tättingar.^[2]

Utbredning och systematik

Dodsonbulbylen förekommer i Östafrika.^[2] Den betraktas ofta som en underart till trädgårdsbulbyl (P. barbatus).^[3]

Status

IUCN erkänner den inte som art, varför den inte placeras i någon hotkategori.

Namn

Fågeln har fått sitt svenska och vetenskapliga namn efter Edward Dodson (1872-1949), en brittisk samlare och upptäcktsresande verksam i taxidermi vid British Museum of Natural History.^[4]
