Rheobates Grant, Frost, Caldwell, Gagliardo, Haddad, Kok, Means, Noonan, Schargel & Wheeler 2006

Rheobates is a genus of frogs in the family Aromobatidae. It is endemic to Colombia.^[2] These are cryptically coloured frogs with extensive toe webbing. The name Rheobates is derived from the Greek words rheo (stream, current) and βάτης bátēs (a walker), in reference to the riparian habitat of the type species Rheobates palmatus.^[1] They are associated with streams in sub-Andean forests and foothills of the Andes at low to medium altitudes.^[3]

Species

There are currently two species:^[2][3]

• Rheobates palmatus (Werner, 1899)
• Rheobates pseudopalmatus (Rivero and Serna, 2000)

The validity of Rheobates pseudopalmatus has been questioned, whereas Rheobates palmatus may represent a species complex.^[1]

Rheobates is een geslacht van kikkers uit de familie Aromobatidae (vroeger: pijlgifkikkers). De groep werd voor het eerst wetenschappelijk beschreven door Taran Grant, Darrel Richmond Frost, Janalee P. Caldwell, Ronald Gagliardo, Célio Fernando Baptista Haddad, Philippe J. R. Kok, Bruce Means, Brice Patrick Noonan, Walter E. Schargel en Ward C. Wheeler in 2006.^[1]

Er zijn twee soorten, die endemisch zijn in Colombia. De soorten zijn bodembewonend en komen voor in tropische regenwouden en nevelbossen.^[2]
