Plant stemless, usually growing in dense masses; leaves 30-40 in a dense rosette, rarely over 6 cm. long, densely cinereous-lepidote throughout with coarse spreading scales; sheaths elliptic, about half as long as the blade; blades narrowly triangular, subulate-acuminate, stout, 5 mm. wide, the outer ones green, the inner deep-red when fresh ; scape none ; inflorescence sessile in the center of the leaves, all but the ends of the petals concealed by the leaves, appearing to l>e a simple abbreviated spike with polystichous flowers, but actually a reduced panicle with the axes aborted and the spikes reduced to a single flower each; primary bracts lance-ovate, acute, equaling or exceeding the sepals, membranaceous, lepidotc toward the apex; floral bracts like the primary bracts but shorter than the sepals ; flowers sessile, erect ; sepals lanceolate, acute, 16 mm. long, membranaceous, free; petals tubular-erect, over 4 cm. long, violet, the claw linear, the blade broadly elliptic, subacute; stamens and pistil long-cx.scrtcd; capsule sul>cylindric, acute, 3 cm. long. Type locality: "S. Angel, S. Bartolo."
DISTRIB0TION : Tamaulipas, Vera Cruz, Puebla, Morelos, Guatemala, and Nicaragua.

Tillandsia erubescens [2] is a species of epiphytic plants of the genus Tillandsia. This species is endemic to Mexico, found over much of the country from Chihuahua to Oaxaca.[1][3][4]
Three varieties are recognized:

Uses
The Pima of Mexico occasionally eat T. erubescens and Tillandsia recurvata flowers due to their high sugar content.[6]
