Erysichton

Erysichton is a genus of butterflies in the family Lycaenidae. The species of this genus are found in the Australasian realm.

Etymology

The genus is named after the mythological figure of Erysichthon of Thessaly.

Former species

Two species of Erysichton were transferred to the new genus Jameela, leaving only the species Erysichton lineatus. (Grund 2010)

• Erysichton albiplaga is now known as Jameela albiplaga (Tite, 1963)

Erysichton er en slekt av dagsommerfugler som tilhører undergrupper blåvinger i den store familie glansvinger (Lycaenidae).

Utseende

Middelsstore blåvinger med en stjert på bakvingen. Hannens overside er blå, hunnen er brunsvart med spredte, blå skjell og et bredt, hvitt felt i midten. Undersiden er gråbrun med fine, hvite tverrstreker, dessuten et bredt, hvitt tverrbånd i forvingen.

Levevis

Larven kan leve på mange ulike planter. Den blir stelt og voktet av maur.

Utbredelse

Slekten er utbredt i Australia, Ny-Guinea og omkringliggende øyer.
