Prosotas

Prosotas is a genus of butterflies in the family Lycaenidae erected by Hamilton Herbert Druce in 1891. The species of this genus are found on New Guinea in the Australasian realm and the Indomalayan realm. An overview is provided by Hsu and Yen.^[1]

Prosotas est un genre de lépidoptères (papillons) de la famille des Lycaenidae et de la sous-famille des Polyommatinae.

Taxonomie

Le genre Prosotas a été décrit par l'entomologiste britannique Hamilton Herbert Druce (en) en 1891, avec pour espèce type Prosotas caliginosa Druce, 1891^[1].

Répartition

Les espèces du genre Prosotas sont originaires d'Asie du Sud et du Sud-Est et d'Océanie^[1].

Prosotas er en slekt av dagsommerfugler som tilhører undergrupper blåvinger i den store familie glansvinger (Lycaenidae).

Utseende

Små blåvinger med eller uten en kort stjert på bakvingen. Oversiden er blå hos hannene, hunnene har gjerne svart vingespiss. Undersiden er lysbrun med mørkere brune tverrbånd, en oransje flekk ved bakvingens bakhjørne.

Levevis

Larvene lever for det meste på akasier (Acacia spp., mimosafamilien).

Utbredelse

Slekten er utbredt i Sørøst-Asia og Australia, fra India i vest til Fiji i øst.
