Scotobleps gabonicus és una espècie d'amfibis de la família Arthroleptidae. És monotípica del gènere Scotobleps. Habita a Camerun, República del Congo, República Democràtica del Congo, Guinea Equatorial, Gabon, Nigèria i possiblement Angola. El seu hàbitat natural són els boscos tropicals o subtropicals secs i a baixa altitud.
Scotobleps is a monotypic frog genus in the family Arthroleptidae; its sole species is Scotobleps gabonicus,[4][5] sometimes known as the Gaboon forest frog or Gabon forest frog.[1][3][5][6] It is found in eastern Nigeria, western and southwestern Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, western Gabon, western Republic of the Congo, and western Democratic Republic of the Congo.[1][3][5] Its range could extend into the Cabinda Enclave of Angola.[1][3]
Males grow to 52 mm (2.0 in) and females to 70 mm (2.8 in) in snout–vent length.[5] The syntype(s) measured 57 mm (2.2 in) in snout–vent length. The head is rather large, as long as broad. The snout is obtusely pointed with a feeble canthus rostralis. The eyes are large. The fingers and toes are moderately elongated, with slightly swollen tips and very strong subarticular tubercles. The toes are half-webbed. Skin is smooth or with small flat warts on the back. The dorsum is olive-brown with small, blackish spots. There is a dark cross-band between the eyes and the upper lip has blackish vertical bars; the one below the anterior third of the eye is extending onto the lower lip. Limbs have dark cross-bars. The venter is white.[2][6]
Scotobleps gabonicus is a common species at low altitudes, living in lowland rainforests, including secondary forests. Breeding takes place in flowing water, preferably in wide, shallow streams with sandy banks but also in torrents. Loss of its forest habitat is causing population declines.[1]

Scotobleps gabonicus is een kikker uit de familie Arthroleptidae. De soort werd voor het eerst wetenschappelijk beschreven door George Albert Boulenger in 1900. Later werd de wetenschappelijke naam Scotobleps camerunensis gebruikt.[2] De kikker werd eerder tot de echte kikkers gerekend en is tegenwoordig de enige soort uit het monotypische geslacht Scotobleps.
Scotobleps gabonicus is een algemeen voorkomende soort die leeft in laaggelegen tropische bossen in Afrika. De kikker komt voor in de landen Congo-Kinshasa, Equatoriaal-Guinea, Gabon, Kameroen en Nigeria, in Congo-Brazzaville is de soort uitgezet.[3] De voortplanting vindt plaats in stromend water; brede, ondiepe stroompjes met zanderige oevers hebben de voorkeur.

Płaz ten posiada rozległy zasięg występowania w zachodniej Afryce. Rozciąga się on od południowowschodniej Nigerii na półnonym zachodzie przez zachodni Kamerun, całą Gwineę Równikową, ponad połowę terytorium Gabonu (zachodnia część kraju) aż do południowozachodniego Konga i zahacza nawet o Demokratyczną Republikę Konga w zachodniej jej części[2][3]. Podejrzewa się też, że gatunek może istnieć w Angoli, ale nie ma pewności[2].
Preferuje on niezbyt wysokie wysokości nad poziomem morza. Zamieszkuje więc nizinne lasy deszczowe, radząc sobie także w środowiskach wtórnych[2].
Wody płynące: potoki, strumyki. Najbardziej jednak lubi szerokie, płytkie, piaszczyste strumienie[2].
Jest liczny, choć populacja zmniejsza się[2].
Deforestacja może przyczyniać się do pogorszenia sytuacji tego gatunku[2].
