Maximum longevity: 17.1 years (captivity)
Observations: It has been reported that these animals live up to 20 years (Lindenfors 2002), which is possible but has not been confirmed. Record longevity for this species belongs to one male specimen that was at least 17.1 year old, but probably older, when it died in captivity (Richard Weigl 2005).
