On Potato Sucrose Agar (PSA). Colonies. After 4 days growth ranges from 5.45-5.9 cm diameter, with a mean ñ SD = 5.65 ñ 0.35; aerial mycelium white with orange pigmentation. On Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA). Colonies. After 10 days growth ranges from 8.5-8.75 cm length, with a mean ñ SD = 8.63 ñ 0.17; aerial mycelium white to pale yellow with brownish orange pigmentation; production of "chlamydospores" not observed. Conidia. Of two types; macroconidia produced after 2-3 weeks of incubation long, straight to falcate, 3- to 7-septate, 32-70 × 3.5-5μm, each with an acute apical cell and foot shaped basal cell; microconidia abundant, clavate 0- to 3-septate, 6-22 × 2.5-4 μm, but occasionally pyriform and aseptate, 7.5-11.5 × 5-9.5 μm, produced in long chains and false heads on mono- and polyphialidic conidiogenous cells. Teleomorph. Not known. Notes. This species produces acid on creatine sucrose agar; it grows on Glycerol Nitrate Agar (G25N) with growth not exceeding 2 cm diam. and with orange aerial mycelium and pigmentation; growth on mannitol sucrose medium results in reddish aerial mycelium and pastel red pigmentation; growth on Czapek-Dox Iprodione Dichloran Agar (CZID) is less than 5 cm diam. with white aerial mycelium and yellowish brown or golden yellow pigmentation. It produces urease, phosphatase and peroxidase enzymes, but does not grow on tannin-sucrose agar or produce acetylmethylcarbinol compound and pyrocatechol oxidase enzyme.
