An enigmatic genus of two rare species, Schenella simplex Macbride (and S. microspora Martin, known only from their type localities in California. Their taxonomic fate will not be certain until additional specimens are found.

Schenella is a genus of fungi in the family Geastraceae. The widely distributed genus contains four species.[2] The genus was circumscribed by Thomas Huston Macbride in 1911.[3] Pyrenogaster, described in 1977,[4] is a later synonym.[1][5]
