Sie erreicht eine Gesamtlänge von 277 bis 315 mm, eine Schwanzlänge von 132 bis 153 mm, die Hinterfußlänge 35 bis 40 mm, die Ohrenlänge 21 bis 25 mm und ein Gewicht von 79 bis 105 g. Das Fell ist an der Oberseite gräulich-braun und an der Unterseite gräulich-weiß. Der ungewöhnlich dicke Schwanz ist zweifarbig, dunkel an der Oberseite und nahezu weiß an der Unterseite. Die Schwanzlänge beträgt 95 bis 100 Prozent der Kopf-Rumpf-Länge.
Die Langnasen-Luzon-Waldmaus ist gegenwärtig nur vom Pinatubo an den Ausläufern der Zambales-Berge bekannt. Möglicherweise ist die Art jedoch in den Tieflagen der Zambales-Berge weiter verbreitet.
Die Langnasen-Luzon-Waldmaus ist von Höhenlagen zwischen 365 und 1080 m dokumentiert. Möglicherweise kommt die Art auch in größeren Höhenlagen vor. Apomys sacobianus ist sehr tolerant gegenüber Störungen. Tatsächlich scheint die Art auf den Habitattyp am Pinatubo spezialisiert zu sein, wo sich die Vegetation nur spärlich regeneriert. Im Studienzeitraum 2011 und 2012 war die Langnasen-Luzon-Waldmaus das häufigste Nagetier am Pinatubo.[1] Weitere beobachtete Nagetiere in dieser Studie waren Apomys zambalensis, Bullimus luzonicus, Chrotomys mindorensis, Rattus everetti, Rattus exulans und Rattus tanezumi.[1] Die Langnasen-Luzon-Waldmaus ist nachtaktiv und geht auf dem Boden auf Nahrungssuche. Sie ist ein Allesfresser. Regenwürmer gehören genauso zum Nahrungsangebot, wie die gebackenen Kokosnussstücke, die die Forscher als Köder ausgelegt hatten.[1]
Die nächste Verwandte von Apomys sacobianus ist Apomys lubangensis. Beide Arten spalteten sich vor etwa 500.000 Jahren von einem gemeinsamen Vorfahren ab. Weitere Verwandte dieser Schwestergruppe sind Apomys brownorum und Apomys banahao, die sich vor etwa 700.000 Jahren abspalteten.
Die Langnasen-Luzon-Waldmaus wird von der IUCN in der Kategorie „unzureichende Datenlage“ (data deficient) gelistet. Im August 1956 sammelte der Zoologe David H. Johnson den Holotypus. Danach galt diese Art als verschollen, bis sie nach dem Ausbruch des Pinatubo im Juni 1991 wiederentdeckt wurde. Weitere Exemplare wurden in den Jahren 2011 und 2012 von Lawrence R. Heaney und Danilo S. Balete gesammelt. Als größte Gefährdung gilt Lebensraumverlust aufgrund der Ausbrüche des Pinatubo.[2]

Il colore del dorso è marrone con dei riflessi grigiastri, mentre le parti ventrali sono bianco-grigiastre. Il muso è allungato. La coda è più lunga della testa e del corpo ed è bruno-grigiastra sopra. I piedi sono larghi ed hanno la pianta grigio scura.
È una specie terricola e notturna.
Questa specie è conosciuta soltanto sul Monte Pinatubo, nella parte centro-occidentale dell'isola di Luzon, nelle Filippine.
Vive nelle foreste secondarie di pianura tra 100 e 1.080 metri di altitudine.

Apomys sacobianus werd in 1962 beschreven door de Amerikaan David Johnson in het tijdschrift Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington. In hetzelfde artikel werd ook een Micronesische rat beschreven onder de naam Rattus rattus mansorius; deze wordt tegenwoordig als een synoniem van de Aziatische zwarte rat gezien. Johnson beschreef zijn nieuwe soort op basis van slechts een exemplaar, USNM 304352, dat gevangen werd bij Clark Air Base aan de rivier Sacobia in de provincie Pampanga.
Een andere Amerikaan, Guy Musser, publiceerde in 1982 het artikel "The Definition of Apomys", waarin hij het geslacht Apomys definieerde en de verwantschap tussen A. sacobianus en A. abrae herkende en beschreef. Hij schreef dat A. sacobianus misschien niet meer zou blijken te zijn dan een geografische variant van A. abrae, maar dat het beter was om, de toenmalige kleine kennis van Apomys in overweging genomen, geen premature conclusies te trekken. De soort was toen nog steeds slechts van het holotype bekend.
Dat veranderde in de jaren '90: in Luis Ruedas' beschrijving van A. gracilirostris werd het exemplaar USNM 557717 genoemd. Dit dier komt uit 1200 m hoogte in Kiangan in de provincie Ifugao. Ruedas plaatste A. sacobianus in een groep met A. gracilirostris en A. datae op basis van de morfologie van de slagaders in de kop. Musser had A. sacobianus eerder in de "abrae-hylocetes-groep" geplaatst, omdat hij de andere mogelijke morfologie van deze slagaders herkende bij A. sacobianus. Musser bevestigde in 2005 dat deze morfologie inderdaad bij beide exemplaren van A. sacobianus voorkwam.[2]
Ondertussen waren er nog twee exemplaren van A. sacobianus gerapporteerd uit de provincies Isabela en Zambales. Deze exemplaren bevinden zich respectievelijk in het Field Museum of Natural History en het Philippine National Museum. De identiteit van deze dieren als A. sacobianus is echter onzeker: het reusachtige exemplaar uit Ifuguao vertegenwoordigt waarschijnlijk een onbeschreven soort, en de andere twee moeten nogmaals bestudeerd worden om hun identiteit te bevestigen. Apomys sacobianus is dus nog steeds uitsluitend bekend van het holotype.[2]
De naam Apomys sacobianus bestaat, zoals gebruikelijk in de zoölogische nomenclatuur, uit een geslachts- en een soortnaam. De geslachtsnaam, Apomys, is in 1905 door de Amerikaanse bioloog Edgar Mearns voorgesteld en betekent "muis uit Mount Apo" (mys, μῦς, is het Oud-Griekse woord voor "muis"; de typesoort van het geslacht werd voor het eerst gevonden op Mount Apo). De soortnaam, sacobianus, is een Latijns bijvoeglijk naamwoord dat afgeleid is van de rivier Sacobia, waar het dier voor het eerst werd gevonden.
A. sacobianus is een grote rat met een staart die iets langer is dan de kop-romp. De bovenkant van het lichaam is grijsbruin, de onderkant vuilwit en op sommige plaatsen wit. Ook de bovenkanten van de voeten zijn wit. De grijsbruine bovenkant en witte onderkant van de staart verschillen scherp in kleur. De kop-romplengte bedraagt 141 mm, de staartlengte 149 mm, de achtervoetlengte 30 mm, de oorlengte 22 mm, de lengte van de schedel 38,0 mm en de lengte van de kiezen 7,1 mm.
Apomys abrae behoort tot de Chrotomys-divisie, een groep binnen de Murinae die uitsluitend in de Filipijnen voorkomt en naast Apomys ook Rhynchomys, Chrotomys en Archboldomys omvat. Deze Filipijnse dieren hebben gemeenschappelijke morfologische[3] en genetische[4] kenmerken. Binnen deze groep is Apomys verreweg het grootste en wijdstverbreide geslacht: Apomys omvat kleine, onopvallende bosmuizen die in de gehele Filipijnen voorkomen, terwijl de andere, sterk gespecialiseerde geslachten nauwelijks buiten Luzon zelf te vinden zijn. Apomys zelf is in 1982 door Musser verdeeld in twee groepen, de datae-groep, met alleen A. datae uit Luzon, en de abrae-hylocetes-groep, met alle andere soorten. Deze groepen verschillen in de manier waarop de kop door slagaders van bloed wordt voorzien.
A. sacobianus behoort tot de abrae-hylocetes-groep, en is daarbinnen waarschijnlijk het nauwste verwant aan A. abrae, waarvan het mogelijk slechts een geografische variant is, maar wat de verdere verwantschappen van deze twee soorten zijn, is onzeker, hoewel een verwantschap met A. microdon en A. musculus, twee andere soorten uit Luzon, is gesuggereerd. Aangezien Apomys waarschijnlijk op Luzon is ontstaan en A. abrae en A. sacobianus mogelijk verwant zijn aan A. microdon en A. musculus, is het aannemelijk dat A. sacobianus op Luzon zelf is ontstaan, misschien als gevolg van het gebruik van verschillende habitats door de vormen van een voorouderlijke soort.[5]
De IUCN-status van deze soort is in 1996 gekwalificeerd als "kwetsbaar" met het criterium C2b (alle individuen behoren tot een enkele subpopulatie). Deze status is echter "prematuur" genoemd, omdat er zo weinig van A. sacobianus bekend is.[6] In 2008 is de IUCN-status omgezet in "onzeker".

Filipinomysz długonosa[3] (Apomys sacobianus) – gatunek gryzoni z rodziny myszowatych, występujący endemicznie na Filipinach. Gatunek został opisany naukowo w 1962 roku przez D. Johnsona[4].
Gryzoń ten jest morfologicznie podobny do filipinomyszy reliktowej (A. abrae) z północy wyspy Luzon. Ma trochę większe rozmiary ciała i bardziej szare futro[4]. Gatunek jest słabo znany, jedynie holotyp jest pewnym okazem; inne doniesienia mogą dotyczyć pokrewnych gatunków z grupy A. abrae[2].
Apomys sacobianus występuje wyłącznie na wyspie Luzon w archipelagu Filipin. Miejsce typowe znajduje się nad rzeką Sacobia, w pobliżu bazy powietrznej Clark (filipińskiej, dawniej amerykańskiej), na wysokości 100–200 m n.p.m. Holotyp został znaleziony w nizinnym lesie wtórnym[2]
Ograniczony stan wiedzy o gatunku nie pozwala na przyznanie mu statusu zagrożenia. Nie są znane zagrożenia dla tego gatunku; miejsce typowe zostało dotknięte skutkami wybuchu wulkanu Pinatubo[2].

필리핀 루손섬 중서부의 피나투보산에서만 알려져 있다. 해발 100m와 1,080m 사이의 이차림 저지대 숲에서 서식한다.
