Trees to 20 m tall, evergreen. Branchlets glabrous. Petiole 1-2 cm; leaf blade ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 4.5-11 × 1.5-4.5 cm, abaxially greenish and glabrous or midvein and axil of veins
with yellowish brown stellate hairs, adaxially brightly green, base rounded to broadly cuneate, margin hispidulous, apex narrowly acuminate; secondary veins 9-12 on each side of
midvein, adaxially inconspicuous. Cupule cupular, ca. 5 × 10 mm, enclosing 1/4-1/3 of nut; bracts ovate, ca. 1 mm, grayish tomentose. Nut brown, narrowly ellipsoid, 1.5-2 × ca. 0.9 cm,
glabrous or apex slightly pubescent; scar ca. 3 mm in diam., slightly raised; stylopodium short. Fl. Apr-May, fr. Oct.

Quercus setulosa[2] is the accepted name of an oak species in genus Quercus of the family Fagaceae.[3][4] It is now placed in section Ilex of subgenus Cerris.[5][6]
Subspecies and Description
The Catalogue of Life lists the following:[3]
- Q. setulosa laotica
- Q. setulosa setulosa
This oak tree grows up to 30 m tall and has been recorded from Laos and Vietnam (especially the Central Highlands), where it may be called sồi duối.[7]

Quercus setulosa Hickel & A.Camus – gatunek rośliny z rodziny bukowatych (Fagaceae Dumort.). Występuje naturalnie w Tajlandii, Laosie, Wietnamie oraz południowych Chinach (w prowincjach Guangdong, Kuejczou i Junnan, a także w regionie autonomicznym Kuangsi)[3][4].
Morfologia

- Zimozielone drzewo dorastające do 20 m wysokości. Kora ma szarą barwę i jest spękana[4].
- Liście
- Blaszka liściowa ma owalny lub owalnie lancetowaty kształt. Mierzy 4,5–11 cm długości oraz 1,5–4,5 cm szerokości, jest całobrzega, ma nasadę od zaokrąglonej do klinowej i spiczasty wierzchołek. Ogonek liściowy jest nagi i ma 10–20 mm długości[4].

- Orzechy zwane żołędziami o elipsoidalnym kształcie, dorastają do 15–20 mm długości i 9 mm średnicy. Osadzone są pojedynczo w miseczkach w kształcie kubka, które mierzą 5 mm długości i 10 mm średnicy. Orzechy otulone są miseczkami w 25–35% ich długości[4].
Biologia i ekologia
Rośnie w lasach mieszanych. Występuje na wysokości do 1300 m n.p.m. Kwitnie od kwietnia do maja, natomiast owoce dojrzewają w październiku[4].
