The freshwater tyulka (Clupeonella tscharchalensis) is a species of fish in the herring family Clupeidae. It is found in the Caspian Sea watersheds, including the lower reaches of the rivers Volga and Ural. It was introduced to the Don River basin (Sea of Azov basin) and is also invasive upstream in the Volga drainage (Kama River).[1][2] It is a small freshwater pelagic fish, up to 10 cm maximal length, inhabiting large lakes and reservoirs, and breeding in open water. Earlier it was considered to be a part of the species Clupeonella cultriventris (a variety or subspecies).[2]

Clupeonella tscharchalensis is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van de haringen (Clupeidae).[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1896 door Borodin.

Ареал охоплює басейн Каспійського моря, а саме пониззя річок Волга і Урал. У верхній течії Волги, особливо в її притоці — Кама — вважається інвазивним. Крім того був заселений до басейну середнього Дону (басейн Азовського моря).
Прісноводна пелагічна риба, що віддає перевагу озерам і водосховищам.[1] Сезон розмноження триває з квітня по липень, нерест відбувається у відкритих водах. Живиться дрібними ракоподібними, зокрема копеподами і кладоцерами.
