The vaquita (Phocoena sinus) is a rare species o porpoise. It is endemic tae the northren pairt o the Gulf o Californie. Estimates o the nummer o individuals alive range frae 100 [2][3] tae 300.[3] The wird "vaquita" is Spainyie for little cou.[4] Syne the baiji (Lipotes vexillifer) is believed tae hae gone extinct in 2006,[5] the vaquita haes taken on the teetle o the maist endangered cetacean in the warld.[6]

Ither names include cochito, desert porpoise, Gulf o California harbor porpoise, Gulf o Californie porpoise, an gulf porpoise.
