The Atlantic horse mackerel (Trachurus trachurus) is found in marine waters from the eastern North Atlantic as far south as Senegal; the species is also represented at the western fringe of the Indian Ocean in places such as the Mozambique Channel. The range extends as far southeast as the Mediterannean, even into the Sea of Marmara and the brackish Black Sea. The species occurs as far north as Iceland and Norway, thence southward through the northeast Atlantic, including the Sea of the Hebrides, Irish Sea, Celtic Sea and Bay of Biscay. Further south this fish is found along the western coast of Africa. In the Mediterranean the species occurs from the Alboran Sea to the Aegean.
