Heteronema acus (Ehrenberg) Stein, 1878. Cells spindle-shaped with rounded ends, 45-50 microns long, 8 to 20 microns wide, with pellicular striations. Anterior flagellum slightly longer than the cell and posterior flagellum about 0.5 times cell length.
