Plants annual, 20-30 cm tall, glabrous, with few supporting roots. Stem erect, succulent, simple or branched at middle part, long naked basally, nodes swollen, sometimes with adventitious roots. Leaves alternate; petiole 1-2.5 cm; leaf blade pale green abaxially, dark green adaxially, oblong or oblong-lanceolate, 5-9(-12) × 2.5-4 cm, thinly membranous, lateral veins 9-12 pairs, often with 2 globose basal glands, base cuneate, attenuate into petiole, margin crenate, emarginate, teeth mucronulate, apex acuminate. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, (1 or)2-flowered; peduncles 4-7 cm. Pedicels 1.5-3 cm, slender, bracteate above middle; bracts persistent, lanceolate, 5-7 mm, apex acuminate. Flowers purple, 3.5-4 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, green, broadly ovate, 5-6 × 3-4 mm, margin denticulate, apex long cuspidate. Lower sepal narrowly funnelform, 4-4.5 cm, gradually narrowed into an incurved spur; spur 2-2.5 cm, slender; mouth oblique, ca. 1.5 cm, tip rostellate. Upper petal oblate or reniform, large, ca. 1.6 × 3.5 cm, apex retuse, mucronulate, abaxial midvein narrowly carinate; lateral united petals not clawed, ca. 2.6 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes oblong, apex rounded; distal lobes dolabriform, 2-lobed apically; auricle inconspicuous. Filaments linear, ca. 5 mm; anthers obtuse. Ovary erect, fusiform, 5-6 mm. Capsule oblong, 1.8-2 cm. Seeds many, brown, globose, ca. 3 mm, smooth. Fl. Sep-Oct.
