Plants annual, 30-60 cm tall, glabrous. Stem erect, simple or branched. Leaves alternate, lower and middle ones long petiolate, upper ones shortly petiolate or subsessile; petiole 3-5 cm; leaf blade pale green abaxially, green adaxially, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, or oblong-ovate, 10-15 × 2.5-3 cm, thinly membranous, lateral veins (6-)10 pairs, base cuneate, attenuate into petiole, or upper ones rounded or cordate, margin coarsely crenate, teeth emarginate, mucronulate, apex acute, acuminate, or caudate-acuminate. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, 1-flowered; peduncles erect, shorter than leaves, 1.5-2 cm, slender. Pedicels bracteate at middle; bracts persistent, ovate, ca. 3 mm, apex acuminate. Flowers pink, large, 3.5-4 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, orbicular, 1-1.5 cm in diam., papery, abaxial midvein carinate, 7-veined. Lower sepal violet striate, broadly funnelform, 3-3.5 cm deep, base gradually narrowed into an incurved spur; spur 1-1.5 cm, slender, 2-lobed; mouth vertical, ca. 2.5 cm wide, tip acuminate. Upper petal orbicular, 1.8-2.2 cm in diam., apex truncate or acuminate or rarely retuse, rostellate, abaxial midvein thickened, broadly cristate, crista entire, rounded; lateral united petals ± clawed, 3-3.5 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes ovate, small, apex fine, with a long filamentous hair; distal lobes dolabriform, large, apex obtuse with a seta; auricle inflexed, narrow. Filaments linear, short; anthers obtuse. Ovary erect, fusiform. Capsule linear, 2.5-3 cm. Seeds many, subglobose, compressed, 3-4 mm. Fl. Aug-Sep.
